The officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Health Office said there are no reported cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 in the city.

Dr. Edwin Miraflor yesterday said they have not received any confirmatory test from the Philippine Genome Center that Bacolod has a case of the subvariant of Omicron.

The Department of Health is actively monitoring COVID-19 infections after confirming the local transmission of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 in three areas in the country, the latest showing three in Iloilo.

Meanwhile, Miraflor said the city’s COVID response activities and programs are in place in case of a surge of COVID-19 cases which had been expected to occur after the May 9 local and national elections as a result of mass gatherings during political activities.

So far, there has been no surge in Bacolod City and that the city has remained at Alert Level 1.  He attributed all this to the very satisfactory vaccination program of the city that has provided protection to the public, he said.

Miraflor said the city will be intensifying its vaccination program in malls like Ayala Malls Capitol Central and SM-Bacolod by extending their services from five to seven days a week, as well as in Jollibee-Gatuslao Branch.

He is also encouraging the public to get vaccinated especially the students in preparation for the implementation of face-to-face classes.

Meanwhile, Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod still prefer to continue holding zoom meetings rather than having face-to-face sessions, after he brought up the matter several times.

He is hoping that the SP members could meet face-to-face before the incoming set of officials assume by June 30.

Familiaran said he also hopes to meet with the new set of SP members by July 1 so he could assist them and orient the new councilors on matters concerning their assigned offices. Each councilor is entitled to three technical assistants who will be co-terminus with their positions.*
