NOCECO clarifies viral P958K electric bill

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) issued a statement addressing a viral social media post that showed a consumer’s electric bill amounting to a P958,334.

The issue stemmed after a resident of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, took to social media to expressed shock after receiving the nearly P1 million bill, which skyrocketed from her usual P6,000 – P7,000 monthly payment.

According to NOCECO, the affected consumer operates a water refilling station and a laundry shop in Barangay Tagda.

The cooperative explained that the massive bill resulted from a system error where the final reading of a burned, replaced kWh meter was inadvertently encoded.

NOCECO clarified that the meter reading has already been corrected, and the consumer has been duly informed of their updated bill.

To prevent further issues, the management encourages all member-consumer-owners experiencing unusual bill increases to immediately coordinate with the nearest NOCECO office for prompt assistance.*
