The pandemic did not deter the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the Bacolod City Police Office from being top performers in the anti-criminality campaign in Western Visayas from January to July this year.

Lt. Col. Joem Malong, Police Regional Office 6 spokesperson, said yesterday that the number of police operations increased by 367, or 28.86 percent, or from 1,538 last year to 1,905 this year despite of the pandemic.

Of the police operations, 879 were against illegal drugs, 734 on illegal gambling, 238 operations against loose firearms, 27 against illegal logging, and another 27 operations against illegal fishing.

Malong said that NOCPPO has the most number of operations conducted against the proliferation of loose firearms with 107, and also a top contributor to the campaign against illegal gambling with 342.

The BCPO is a major contributor to the anti-illegal drugs operations of PRO 6, with 271. Malong attributed the increase in the number of police operations this year to the religious implementation of “Oplan Birada Semana” and the weekly review being conducted by the Regional Oversight Committee on Illegal Drugs and Enhanced Managing Police Operation.*
