NOCPPO to beef up BCPO manpower for MassKara Festival

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office will send 181 police personnel to augment the manpower requirements of the Bacolod City Police Office, in securing the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, from October 10 to 23, its spokesman, PLt. Judesses Catalogo, disclosed yesterday.

Of the NOCPPO personnel, Catalogo said that the 150 of them are police non-commissioned officers, while 31 police commissioned officers will serve as their supervisors.

The 181 police personnel will initially secure the Panaad sa MassKara venues in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, from Oct. 10 to 16. They are also earmarked for use during the series of MassKara Festival activities from Oct. 17 to 23 at the city proper, Catalogo added.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) also approved the request of organizers and the Bacolod City Police Office to implement a “signal shutdown” during the highlights of the Masskara Festival on October 23.

The Oct. 23 activities include the MassKara street dance and Arena dance competition, as well as Electric MassKara events.

As to the implementation of gun ban during the MassKara period, P/Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, Bacolod City Police Office director, yesterday said he is still awaiting Camp Crame’s approval of his request.*
