New champions emerged in the 5th Battle of Bots Robotics Challenge that concluded at the newly inaugurated Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) campus on Friday in Talisay City.
Negros Occidental High School dominated the Project Innovative Ideas category, bagging both the championship and 3rd place, while Pontevedra National High School secured the championship in the Sumobot category. Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial NHS of Cadiz City was named champion in the Line Tracing and Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial HS of Silay City topped the Mission Challenge.
At the elementary level, Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School bested other participants in the Sumobot category, while School of the Future won in the mission challenge, both schools are from San Carlos City. SPED Training Center of Cadiz City claimed the championship in line tracing.
The top five winners in all categories received medals, cash prizes, and certificates in recognition of their achievements. All champions advanced to the National Robotics Competition Visayas.
The 3-day robotics competition opened on September 30 with Gov. Eugenio Lacson and Atty. Rayfrando Diaz led the opening ceremony, underscoring the province’s commitment to robotics, innovation and technology.
Winners in the high school level competition were: Innovative Project Ideas champion – Loren Andrea Bertuso and Gegan Ray Cahilig (Negros Occidental HS); 2nd place – Hans Christian Espanton and Ichiro Niño Desuyo (Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial NHS); 3rd place – Theo Condevillamar and Sahara Martinne Ronn Gayares (Negros Occidental National Science HS); 4th place – Franz Russell Inocencio and Mark Jofil Esmalla (Sagay NHS Main); and 5th place – Kendra Kirsten Dayot and Marwin Diego (Negros Occidental HS).
Mission Challenge champion – Chaze Jungie Calvez (Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial HS, Silay City); 2nd place – Rey Edmund Torres (Isabela NHS); 3rd place – Abbygale Zapanta (Ramon Torres NHS); 4th place – Matthew Josh Palo (Eusebio Lopez NHS); and 5th place – Dzanyvien Rafaeli Paculanang (Escalante NHS).
Sumobot champion – Jan Michael Roel Espolong (Pontevedra NHS); 2nd place – Ramon III Brillantes (Rafael B. Lacson Memorial NHS); 3rd place – Bonifacio Pedrosa III (Omas Integrated School); 4th place – Kyle Guarino (Rafael B. Lacson Memorial NHS); and 5th place – Juljen Wonne Villaluz (Cabacungan NHS).
Line Tracing champion – John Mattew Porsuelo (Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial NHS Cadiz City); 2nd place – Jovytte Tabino (Isabela NHS); 3rd place – Miguel Carbellido (Sagay NHS); 4th place – Najee Ellian Caro (Negros Occidental National Science HS); and 5th place – Alexxia Provencion (Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial NHS).
Winners in the elementary level competition were: Mission Challenge champion – Samuel Wise Mahinay (School of the Future San Carlos City); 2nd place – Xyle Temperatura (Genaro P. Alvarez ES); 3rd place – Andrev Thomaz Sultan (School of the Future); 4th place – Denz Kyle De Erit Vicario (Silay City South ES); and 5th place – Krisha Ryne Teca (Governor Emilio Gaston Memorial ES).
Sumobot champion – Yhuan Paul Penalosa (Ramon Magsaysay ES San Carlos City); 2nd [lace – Khian Manjero (Governor Emilio Gaston Memorial ES); 3rd place – Shekinah Grace Andrada (Binulig ES); 4th place – Prescious Chylene Cañete (Ma-ao Sugar Central ES); and 5th place – Zylert Caballero (Victorias ES).
Line Tracing champion – Jhae Kyoom Posadas (SPED Training Center Cadiz City); 2nd place – Avaia Ximone Openiano (Talisay ES); 3rd place – Chris Jebber Ortega (School of the Future); 4th place – Oswyn Ramyr Tanate (Canturay ES); and 5th place – Raan Jedy Ulgasan (School of the Future).
The robotics hackathon and competition is a pioneering program of NOLITC since 2019.
NOLITC organizers emphasized that the competition not only focuses on honing the talents of young innovators, but also strengthens the provincial government’s commitment to advancing science, technology, and robotics education for the next generation.*
