Remnants of the New People’s Army have claimed responsibility for the killing of a woman forest guard on November 14, in Sitio Taytay, Barangay Carabalan, HImamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
In a statement, Dionesio Magbuelas, spokesperson of the Romeo Nanta Command, accused Arnie “Pane” Tuparan as an alleged military informant.
They also claimed to have recovered four short firearms and a laptop in her possession.
Initial investigation conducted by the Himamaylan police showed that the victim was summarily executed outside of her residence, in front of her adopted son.
Without any reason and provocation, the victim was shot in the face. While she was lying on the ground, she was shot again in the head, according to the police.
Tuparan was also accused by the rebel remnants of abusing her position as a forest guard through preventing and confiscating charcoal products of the people.
The statement of Magbuelas added that a certain Arnel Recaido, 48, of Sitio Bulod in the barangay, was disarmed of his short firearm, after being warned to stop acting as a military guide in military operations.*
