The National University (NU) recently opened in Bacolod City, its 11th campus in the country, and notably, its first located outside Luzon.

The school building is an eight-story structure, with parking lots from the second to fifth floor, while the school occupies the sixth to eight floors.

The launching ceremony at SM City Bacolod featured the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) NU pep squad, the 7-time UAAP Cheerdance champions.

NU Bacolod is currently accepting senior high and college students. Enrollment is ongoing, and classes start August 5.

The initial courses offered are Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology, B.S. in Accountancy, B.S. in Computer Science, and B.S. in Tourism Management.

George Jardiolin, SM Supermalls regional manager, said NU has come a long way as an academic institution. From its beginnings in the 1990s, it has since gone through name changes, up until it earned its university status. Throughout its more than 120 years of existence, the thrust of accessible and quality education remains steadfast.

“What the new students of NU Bacolod can feel proud of – the Nationalians – is that Bacolod is the first campus in the Visayas-Mindanao region and the first one outside of Luzon”, he said.

“Such is the confidence of National University officials in our city and province that they would choose to relocate here,” Jardiolin added.

Ryan Joy Dizon, NU Bacolod academic/executive director, said in its over 123 years, NU has been recognized for its academic excellence and outstanding graduates in the different fields of industries. Equally recognized is NUs amazing performance in sports.

As it continues to evolve and expand, national education is made more accessible to everyone, she said.

NU is excited to bring quality, accessible and affordable education to all and for all, she added.*
