The Office of Civil Defense- Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR) remains on red alert status, as Kanlaon Volcano continues to indicate its restiveness.
Donato Sermeno III, OCD-NIR regional director, disclosed on Tuesday that Alert Level 2 still prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
As of December 16, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) logged two volcanic quakes. The edifice of the volcano remains inflated.
Sermeno also confirmed that the supervision of Task Force Kanlaon was transferred from OCD-Western Visayas to OCD-NIR.
At the same time, Sermeno was designated as the new Task Force Kanlaon head, replacing Raul Fernandez, who is the OCD- Region 6 head.
A meeting between OCD-NIR and the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development is slated this week, to discuss the temporary shelters of families affected by Typhoon Tino and Kanlaon Volcano eruption.
Sermeno said the discussion will focus on the relocation of homeless families in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
The provincial government of Negros Occidental has already purchased an 8-hectare lot for Kanlaon Volcano eruption affected families in La Castellana.
Sermeno said it will be the Department of Public Works and Highways to prepare for the relocation ground sites, with DSHUD to provide temporary shelters for the affected families.*
