On April 12, the Office of the Vice President expressed deep sorrow, sympathy, and full salute to the family, colleagues, and community of Police MSgt. Romulo Galvez Jr., who died in the line of duty during a buy-bust operation on April 9, a press release from Bacolod City Police Office said.
The incident occurred during an anti-illegal drug operation, where Galvez was fatally wounded while performing his sworn duty. The tragedy came on the same day the nation observed the Araw ng Kagitingan, a commemoration of Filipino bravery and sacrifice.
On April 14, representatives from the Office of the President – Presidential Management Staff (PMS) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) visited the wake of the fallen officer in Prk. Talutog, Brgy. Dulao, Bago City, to extend condolences and support to the bereaved family.
Marie Sobrejuanite of the Office of the President and Mary Katherine Rico of DSWD personally conveyed the government’s sympathy and assistance to the grieving family.
The visit underscores the government’s recognition of the heroism and sacrifice of Galvez, while the family expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity extended to them during this difficult time.*
