OPA prepares recovery plans for Kanlaon-affected farmers

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist is preparing its recovery plans to help farmers in local government units of Negros Occidental affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola, however, said that they could not start implementing it due to the continuing restiveness of the volcano.

Genzola, however, disclosed that OPA and other farmers’ organizations not affected by the eruption have extended help to the farmers, especially those staying at the evacuation centers in La Castellana, by giving them more than 200 sacks of rice.

She added that OPA is also helping the affected farmers through the marketing of their products at the Provincial Capitol, and even on social media.

Damage to crops and fisheries in La Castellana and cities of Bago and La Carlota in Negros Occidental due to Kanlaon Volcano’s eruption has reached P129,758,168.*
