BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

An ordinance providing maintenance medicine for hypertension and diabetes to all senior citizens of Bacolod City was recently approved on first reading by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Celia Flor only applies to senior citizens of Bacolod City. It cited that due to lack of funds, indigent senior citizens are unable to purchase their maintenance medicines and buy their daily necessities, the reason why they need financial support from the government.

Flor, chair of the SP Committee on Senior Citizens and Veterans Affairs, said the proposed ordinance aims to provide medical assistance to resident senior citizens by appropriating funds to the City Health Office (CHO) for the purchase of maintenance medicines, exclusive for the city’s indigent senior citizens.

Senior Citizens with identification card from the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA), have undergone free check-up and have been issued prescription by the CHO, are eligible to avail of free medicines from the city.*
