Violators of city ordinances that impose health protocols will be apprehended by the Bacolod City Task Force Disiplina starting August 1, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of the city’s inter-agency task force (IATF), said yesterday.

Familiaran, Task Force Disiplina head, said they will start information dissemination tomorrow in all barangays of the city on the mandatory wearing of face mask and social distancing, as well as the implementation of curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. as provided in the ordinances authored by Councilor Archie Baribar.

He said Mayor Evelio Leonardia held a virtual meeting with the Task Force Covid and the barangay officials yesterday to emphasize their role in strengthening the fight against COVID-19.

The mayor appealed for a tighter implementation of basic health protocols like proper wearing of face masks and social distancing in order to level up the fight against the COVID pandemic.

“Please inculcate in the hearts and minds of the people that what we are facing right now is not a joke. Implement tighter enforcement of basic health protocols regardless of politics because our lives are at stake,” Leonardia said.

He said that it is a necessity for barangay captains to undergo an updated orientation for them to see the bigger picture of our situation.

Leonardia also asked the city council to make some revisions and amendments to the City Ordinance on social distancing and proper wearing of face masks to strengthen the roles of the barangay officials on their implementation.

“The key here is for us not to allow the increase of our COVID cases. If there are confirmed cases in your area and that is under lockdown, you have to make sure that no one leaves the lockdown area,” mayor said.

Familiaran said the barangay officials could greatly contribute to the reduction of COVID-19 cases in the city by ensuring the strict implementation of mandatory health protocols.

Also discussed during the meeting were contact tracing procedures and implementation of executive orders, including the ordinances on health protocols.

Councilor Lady GlesPallen, Ligangmga Barangay president, said the mayor also discussed the guidelines on the implementation of seal off or lockdown of areas where there are COVID-19 positive patients.

Pallen said they also tackle the issues on authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) and those who escape from quarantine centers.*
