A fire ignited in a residential area located in Purok Katilingban 1 and 2, Barangay 39, Bacolod City, leaving more than 207 families or 849 individuals displaced, on February 27.
Initial reports from the Department of Social Service and Development (DSSD) stated that 80 houses were totally damaged, and 9, partially.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Bacolod estimated the damage worth more or less P1,740,000.
DSSD head Dr. Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga said that the affected families are temporarily staying at the Barangay gym.
The BFP reported that the fire started at around 11:05 a.m. and was declared out at around 12 p.m.
The BFP said that the initial response was hampered due to several firetrucks being deployed out-of-town to assist the ash-flushing operations in areas affected by the Kanlaon Volcano that erupted on Thursday night.
No casualties or injuries were recorded.*
