• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

An overstaying Chinese national was intercepted on Tuesday by the Philippine Coast Guard at the Manta-angan Port in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

The 42-year old foreigner, a resident of Urumqi, China, was not allowed to board passenger Ro-Ro vessel bound for Ajuy, Iloilo, after he failed to present documents which allows him to stay in the Philippines, according to the Police Regional Office- Negros Island Region.

The Chinese national, according to PRO-NIR reports, claimed that his documents and personal belongings were lost at a hotel in Makati in 2018.

He further claimed that he had been staying in Luzon, Cebu, and Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, for almost eight years.

The Philippine Coast Guard turned him over to the Bureau of Immigration for further investigation.

Commodore Christopher Auro, PCG District Southern Visayas commander, disclosed that the Chinese national came from Bicol, Cebu, Dumaguete, and Bacolod, until he was intercepted in E.B. Magalona.

Authorities are further checking the background of the Chinese national if he is connected to the 10 Chinese nationals arrested in Bago City, Negros Occidental, following the dismantling of an organized network engaged in manufacturing of illegal cigarettes.*
