College students enrolled at Southland College in Kabankalan City, yesterday received educational assistance worth P1.2 million from the provincial government Negros Occidental.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of educational assistance, in an event attended by Vice Mayor Miguel Zayco, Board Member Jeffrey Tubola, college president Juan Antonio Villaluz and Karen Dinsay, head of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division, among others.

The Provincial Treasurer’s Office and the NOSP facilitated the distribution of P5,000 in cash to each of the 250 scholars.

In a statement, Lacson advised the students to take their education seriously, and to use the financial assistance given to them judiciously.

“May you advance to be confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors to our community, to our society and our nation,” he added.

Lacson also thanked Vice Mayor Zayco, the city officials of Kabankalan, and the Southland College management for their commitment to the furtherance of the Negrense youth education.

“May this activity motivate our continued and sustained efforts to think of ways on how to further achieve the kind of quality education our learners deserve,” he stressed.*
