P1.5M damage in Punta Taytay fire

A house in Purok Kaingin, Barangay Punta-Taytay, Bacolod City was razed by fire at about 3:23 a.m. yesterday, leaving about P1.5 million worth of properties destroyed.

Rodolfo Ramos, 60, whose house was destroyed by the fire, suffered burns on his left arm and right shoulder, while Flordeliza Ramos, 59, also suffered burns on her right hand, based on records of the Bureau of Fire Protection- Bacolod.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Services and Development is processing the release of financial assistance to the fire victims of Purok Mahimulaton, Barangay Banago.

The Bureau of Fire Protection estimated the damage caused by the fire that started from the house of Jerry Villamor Thursday evening, at P75,000 since the houses were mostly made of light materials.

DSSD head Pacita Tero said 10 families whose houses were destroyed by the fire will receive P10,000 each, while four families whose houses were damaged by it will receive P5,000 each.

The affected families are temporarily housed at the Multipurpose Center of Brgy. Banago and were provided food assistance by Barangay Captain Ricky Mijares and the city government.

Mijares said the barangay council of Banago will determine the amount of financial assistance to be extended to the fire victims.

The fire started at about 6:54 p.m. and was put under control by responding firefighters at about 7:49 p.m. Thursday.*
