P100K subsidy for Bacolod Film Fest entries

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Filmmakers with selected storylines and scripts for the 2025 Bacolod Film Festival (BFF) will receive a P100,000 subsidy from the local government.

Councilor Em Ang, the author of the BFF ordinance, explained that the subsidy had to be reduced from P300,000 in 2024 to P100,000 this year, due to the absence of a grant from the Department of Trade and Industry.

Ang noted that last year’s entries also received personal funding from Bacolod Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

The deadline of submission for script and storyline of the festival, which will carry the theme “Panan-aw – Local Frames, Global Change,” concluded yesterday.

The subsidy is also limited to 10 entries each year, and they are required to follow auditing rules and regulations of pertinent laws on cash grants and subsidies.

The ordinance stated that the festival is scheduled for November 2025 to ensure participation and alignment with other activities of the city government.

The councilor proudly pointed out that the 2024 participants have competed and received accolades in other national film festivals, proving the event is meeting its objective.*
