Mayor Pedro Zayco convened the Local School Board at the Schools Division Office of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental for the approval of the 2021 School Education Fund, worth P15 million, on Thursday.

The SEF budget will be allocated for the construction of school buildings in Talubangi National High School and Binicuil NHS, repair and maintenance of different schools, salaries of 16 para-teachers, materials and supplies for modules, and for scouting and sports development, the city said in a press release posted on its Facebook page yesterday.

Zayco told members of the board that education matters in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic. “It is the priority of the city to support the total development of our students.”

Co-chairman and schools superintendent, Portia allorca, meanwhile, said “There are so many transformations in the learning process brought by Covid-19 yet the love for education showed by the officials of the City of Kabankalan is beyond compare”.

The meeting was also attended by Councilor Delia Anacan, City Treasurer Grace Marie Fernandez, acting City Accountant Alma Pabalate, SDO Budget officer Lyn Rose Otea, Planning Officer 3 Arnie Besas, and Teachers Federation president Vicente Ynchausti.

Meanwhile, Zayco also led the inauguration of a new healing facility for Covid-19 in Brgy. Linao, Kabankalan on Thursday.

The facility will cater to patients who tested positive in the RT-PCR test but are asymptomatic, the press release said.

Zayco said the healing facility will help patients to recover soon. “Through the help of the City Health Office, they will be given health programs, such as exercises and good nutrition to facilitate healing.” Prayers were offered during the spiritual rites, led by Fr. John Alipo-on. He was joined by Zayco, councilors Jeanna Cordova-Genizera and Helen Zafra, SK President Jeorgelyn Largado, Dr. Elizabeth Garaygay Junto, nurses, midwives and other personnel of the facility, the press release added.*
