• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Police recovered suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at approximately P2.3 million in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on May 13.

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) said a barangay kagawad’s report to the San Carlos City Police Station led to the recovery of five boxes of New Mega Menthol and 18 boxes of Red Bosqu cigarettes, containing 100 reams per box, abandoned along the roadside in the area.

“Our operations focus on strengthening intelligence gathering to detect and monitor unlawful activities. Intensifying surveillance efforts on identified individuals, and carrying out synchronized enforcement actions to effectively address criminal activities,” PRO NIR Acting Regional Director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño said.

The confiscated items are scheduled for turnover to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for verification and final disposition.*
