P2.4M damaged in Calatrava market fire

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

About 2.4 million worth of goods and properties went up in flames Saturday night, as fire hit a public market in Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

However, the origin of fire, which lasted almost two hours, has yet to be determined by the Bureau of Fire and Protection.

No one was reported injured in the fire incident by the BFP.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Andrew Demisana, in an interview with RMN DYHB, said it took an hour for them to reach the fire scene, because of its distance from the poblacion of Calatrava.

Neighboring BFP units in Toboso and Escalante City also responded to the fire call.

Some houses near the market were also reported to have been partially damaged by fire.*
