P2.5M in losses to NegOcc agri-fisheries due to heavy rains, floods

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported that the initial value of losses to agricultural crops and fisheries amounted to P2,530,481 in Negros Occidental, due to the heavy rains and flooding caused by southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by Tropical Storms Mirasol, Nando, and Opong.

In a report submitted to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, OPA chief Dina Genzola said that 116.40 hectares of agricultural crops in 18 barangays of Moises Padilla, Isabela, Don Salvador Benedicto, and San Carlos City, were damaged by flooding, affecting 159 farmers, as of September 29.

The value of the damage was estimated by OPA at P2,415,481.63.

Four fishing boat operators in the barangays of Looc and Bantayanon, Calatrava, reported losses of 115,000, due to destruction of their fishing boats.

Eight houses were partially damaged in Silay City and E.B. Magalona while another one was reported destroyed in Bago City.*
