P205M allocated for Bacolod-Silay airport upgrade

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez lauded the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for approving his request to allocate P205 million for the upgrading of the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

The P205 million allocation for the Bacolod-Silay Airport Development Project is on top of the P45 million for the ongoing rehabilitation work, according to Benitez.

CAAP director general Raul del Rosario, CAAP director general, said in a letter to Benitez that the P200 million has been allocated for the expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building, which includes the check in and pre-departure areas to accommodate the growing passenger demand.

On the other hand, del Rosario said the P5 million will be for the widening of the access road to the Fire Station Building.

He assured Benitez that the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) is committed to include in their funding the asphalt overlay of the existing runway at the Bacolod-Silay Airport to ensure safe aircraft operations.

Along with TIEZA’s support and the ongoing P45 million terminal rehabilitation, Benitez said it “brings us closer to a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airport for Bacolod and the rest of the province.”

We are committed to seeing these projects through for the benefit of our people, the mayor further said.

Del Rosario also said that the rehabilitation of the Passenger Terminal Building at the Bacolod-Silay Airport is expected to be completed in December 2025.*
