The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and the City Government of Sagay broke ground for the construction of a P25 million Sagay City Component Police Station at the New Sagay Public Market, Barangay Poblacion II, Sagay City, yesterday, according to a press release from the Sagay PIO.
PRO-NIR Deputy Director for Administration Police Col. Dennis Esguerra, with Negros Occidental 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and Sagay Police Chief P/LtCol. Alvimar Flores, led the groundbreaking rites, along with the city councilors and uniformed personnel.
The Sagay CCPS Standard Building will be situated on a 1,500-square-meter donated lot and will feature a two-storey building with facilities such as office spaces, quarters, detention cells, conference rooms, and others.
The ceremony was highlighted by the groundbreaking and official dropping of the time capsule, blessing of the area, and messages from various officials.
Javelosa said that the project represents a significant step forward for Sagaynons as it was formalized in 2019.
“We are confident that this project will bring furtherance to community services, developing the values of the Philippine National Police organization and the community involved”, he said.
Marañon, who was the mayor when the land was donated for the new police station, said that with this building, the effort of the stakeholders was paid off, as the construction of the building will begin.
With the new police station, the response time of the police will be quicker, and they will be more visible to the public, making their services more accessible to the Sagaynons.
The building, which has a total cost of P24,949,544.09 from the national government, is expected to be finished by June 9, 2026, a year after the groundbreaking.
In a message from PRO-NIR Director P/BGen. Thomas Ibay, which was read by Esguerra, he thanked all the people who facilitated the requirements and necessary documents to construct the building.
“May this groundbreaking ceremony serve as an inspiration to us all to strengthen our efforts in our law enforcement campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and other operations,” he said.
Flores also said that with the new building, they can now upgrade their services while keeping up with modernization.*
