• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A suspect carrying P26,000 in cash and sample ballots was arrested on October 29 after a brief chase with three complainants at Sitio Nasunugan in Brgy. Batuan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.

The 59-year-old suspect, whose identity was withheld by the police, was reportedly an uncle of a candidate running for barangay captain in San Enrique.

He was monitored to have been carrying a yellow green transparent plastic, presumed to be containing sample ballots, according to one of the complainants, initial police investigation showed.

When he was flagged down by the complainants, he refused to do so, prompting them to chase him, leading to his interception

Upon checking him, the complainants were able to recover 52 sample ballots and P26,000 in cash.

The suspect and the recovered cash, as well as sample ballots, were endorsed to the San Enrique police for recording and booking purposes.*
