The Provincial Veterinary Office has reported that the damage to the livestock industry in Negros Occidental due to the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon in previous weeks was estimated at P3.3 million.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana, in her report submitted to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on September 23, disclosed that 3,108 animals, mostly chicken, died in 71 barangays of 15 affected local government units.
Number of affected households was placed at 402.
Hardest hit was Isabela town, with the damage amounting to P1,116,776.14, affecting 122 households and 1,108 dead animals, the report said.
Poultry houses were also reported to have collapsed in Silay City, with the value of the damage placed at P20,000, according to PVO reports.
In a report submitted earlier by the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), damage to the agriculture sector has reached P146,184,459, with P1,781,361 in losses to fisheries.
To avail of their respective calamity funds, the municipalities of San Enrique, Hinigaran, Valladolid, as well as La Carlota City, have declared a state of calamity in their respective areas.*
