The 29 families affected by fire at the compound of Home for the Blind in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, have been assured of financial assistance by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who visited them after the incident.

Benitez, whose visit to the affected families was accompanied by Mansilingan Brgy. Capt. Franz Tionko, Rep. Greg Gasataya, and Councilor Jason Villarosa, disclosed that the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as well the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, immediately attended to their immediate needs, such as sleeping kits, folding beds and assorted goods.

The fire victims are temporarily staying at the Mansilingan barangay covered court.

The Bureau of Fire and Protection reported that the fire destroyed three houses and partially damaged two others.

The initial fire damage was placed at P4.3 million, while its origin is still being determined by BFP probers, as of this time.*
