The Bacolod City Police Office Intelligence Unit recovered an estimated P519,000 worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes from an abandoned house in Florence Ville Subdivision, Barangay Pahanocoy, late Monday night.
The recovery occurred while authorities were conducting intelligence monitoring for a warrant of arrest, and observed an unidentified individual carrying a large brown box out of the uninhabited residence.
Upon being approached by the operatives, the suspect fled toward the upper levels of the house and successfully escaped into the darkness, leaving the cargo behind.
A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of several more boxes containing assorted illicit cigarettes in plain view.
The confiscated items will be turned over to the appropriate government agencies for proper disposition.*
