P50K reward offered to solve 15-year-old’s death

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A reward of P50,000 is being offered by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez for any information that could lead to the solution of the mystery of the death of Grade 10 student Pearl Joy Galve, whose remains were found on August 13, inside a sugarcane plantation at Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Galve, a 15-year-old student of Sum ag National High School in Bacolod City, was buried on Monday, while her death remains an unsolved crime.

The minor was reported missing on July 29, until before her cadaver was found in a state of decomposition, by a laborer, inside a canefield in La Carlota City.

“If there is a recommendation to increase that (reward), I will wait for the CD (City Director Col. Joeresty Coronica) to give the proposal, and I will consider that,” Benitez said.

Aside from the Bacolod City Police Office and La Carlota City Police Station, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Commission on Human Rights are also investigating the incident.

In a meeting with Jennifer Galve, the mother of the victim, Benitez said he assured her that the Bacolod City government will do everything to apprehend the culprit behind her daughter’s death.*
