Bacolod Mayor Albee Benitez announced during his press conference on Monday that the city government has redirected the P525 million budget, originally intended for constructing a new Burgos public market to fund five other city projects after local vendors opposed the new market plan, a press release from Bacolod PIO said.
One of the newly-funded projects is a one-hectare animal shelter in Barangay Granada, designated to house up to 1,000 stray dogs, with P10 million earmarked for its construction.
In addition, portions of the budget will be used to complete ongoing projects such as P250 million for the Legislative Building, P190 million for the Rehabilitation of the Old City Hall, P60 million for the City Health Complex, and P15 million for the Tree Park.
According to the statement, Benitez is hopeful these initiatives, from the animal shelter to health and green spaces, will improve the quality of life of every Bacolodnon.*
