P850M allocated to pump prime Cadiz economy

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

To address the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, the city government of Cadiz allocated P850 million to pump prime its local economy, disclosed re-elected Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. yesterday.

Escalante said that majority of the funds goes to infrastructure projects, such as concreting of farm to market roads which connects the hinterland villages to the poblacion, a drainage system, and complimented by an agricultural modernization program.

For me, the answer to the problem of food security is the concreting of roads in the hinterlands, modernization of farming methods, providing them agricultural equipment and technicians to improve their farm production, Escalante said.

Good roads in the hinterlands will also boost the tourism industry of Cadiz City, which has so many potential tourist destination areas.

Through infrastructure projects, we may also provide job employment to Cadiznons, especially in this time of “tiempos Muertos,” he added.

Despite the pandemic, the Cadiz mayor noted a 4.6 percent increase in the Gross Domestic Product of Western Visayas, which he largely attributed to agriculture products.

He also enumerated ongoing infrastructure projects in Cadiz City, such as port development and construction of breakwater structures to protect its coastal areas from erosion and storm surges.*
