P90M earmarked for Bacolod school supplies

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Bacolod City government has allocated P90 million from its Special Education Fund to provide school supplies, bags, and P.E. shirts to public school students free of charge, for the upcoming academic year.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said the program is designed to mitigate the impact of rising commodity prices and the ongoing economic crisis by reducing the educational expenses shouldered by local parents.

Around 64,600 pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 6 are scheduled to receive the same school supply sets as provided last year, with the addition of a school bag.

Meanwhile, an estimated 46,000 students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 will receive a school bag and a P.E. uniform.

Gasataya noted that the city government is working to ensure all items are ready for distribution before June 8 to ensure students are prepared well before the start of classes.*
