The Painting Legion (PL) opened its 25th year anniversary exhibition at the Arfien Art Gallery at Sta. Monica Building, La Consolacion College, San Juan Street, Bacolod City on November 24.
Titled “Sidlak sang Pilak,” the show features the works of 34 of its members.
The Painting Legion is exclusive to Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Painting and Studio Arts students of LCC, and is an accredited club of LCC Bacolod, under the Arfien Department, founded by Emanuel “Pikpok” Delgado and Antonio Tejado as adviser.
The exhibiting artists are Arjuna Mayang, James Darren Tequison, James Casipe, Jasmine Embana, Justin Anabiza, Marvin Magbanua, Mary Airene Gerona, Rosa Mae Jungco, Rosemarie Therese Chan, Sampha Aliguin, Shamewill Monteras, Thalia Silva, Yunah Javier, Armsley Boloy, Bengie Gantalao, Bianca Locsin, Mateo Juplo IV, Quincy Hervias, Ralph Doldoco, Ralph Pincale, Sidney Agsam, Andrew Tomaro, Bert Silva, Disnoy Agsam, Janine Ledesma, Jester Anierdes, JM Ginete, Khyt Dohinog, Miguel San Miguel, Shan Paul Evangelista, Thea Muscosa, Apple Garzon, John Cleed Penuela, and Patti Valencia.
“We are the silent warriors behind the mural paintings, exhibition set-up, mounting exhibitions, including the Brigada Eskwela @ the Workshop. Recently, we had two mural projects in line: at the San Sebastian Parish and at the Negros Forest Park with the Talarak Foundation,” Buglas Carreon, Painting Legion adviser, said.
“We are visual artists, we are the “keepers and bearers of the soul – of culture. A nation without culture is dead. Art in all its forms is the universal language of humanity. Art unites us all. Art makes us more human – more humane,” he said.
Carreon said this silver anniversary exhibit is a kick-start/re-ignition initiative of the PL for the proposed battery of art events. They are planning for a grand Painting Legion Alumni Exhibition next year, including art expos, artist talks, and forums.
The Painting Legion aims to enhance the creative prowess and artistic acumen of its members through the means of providing activities that involve interactions with the other components of the art community as well as immerse in events that heighten their social awareness. Painting Legion is a society that is receptive to the relevance of art and also as a medium to convey ideas, promote awareness, preserve culture and history and depicts reality that mirrors the contemporary world.
As a student organization, the Painting Legion initiates in the continuing development, productivity and responsible growth among studio arts students from all levels. It provides members the opportunities to discover and enhance their skills both conceptual and technical through various activities of the organization. It also provides broadening and inspiration through exposure to various visual arts activities.
Now on its 25th year, the BFA Studio Arts gained the highest percentage of increase in enrolment in the entire LCC-Bacolod.*
