A passenger airplane experienced a minor runway excursion as it was landing at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental, at about 5:32 a.m. of December 27, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The CAAP said that Philippine Airlines flight PR 2285, en route from Cebu, overshot Runway 03 due to heavy rainfall that significantly reduced braking efficiency.
The aircraft failed to stop within the intended runway length, resulting in an overshoot into the taxiway, it added.
All passengers and crew onboard were unharmed and were promptly attended to by airport personnel and authorities, CAAP further said. But it did not specify the number of passengers and crew members on board.
The passenger plane involved was PAL Express flight 2P-2285, operating with a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft registered as RP-C5911.
Due to the incident, PAL canceled the return flight 2P-2286 from Bacolod to Cebu. Additionally, the disruption caused the cancellation of two Cebgo flights departing from Cebu. However, flight operations have returned to normal.
“Affected passengers were immediately notified and provided with rebooking options or alternative travel arrangements,” the CAAP said.
The CAAP emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and announced that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the minor runway excursion and implement measures to prevent similar incidents.*
