The Negros Occidental athletes who were medalists in the recently concluded 2024 Palarong Pambansa held in Cebu City, received a total of P901,000 in cash incentives during recognition and awarding rites held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City yesterday .

Gold medalists got P5,000; silver medalists, P4,000; and P3,000 for bronze medalists.

Negrense athletes won 31 gold, 34 silver, and 22 bronze medals during the Palarong Pambansa 2024 held in Cebu City.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who led the ceremonial distribution of cash incentives to the Negrense athletes for both elementary and secondary levels, congratulated them for a job well done in the annual sporting event.

Lacson said the Palarong Pambansa in Cebu could be the last year of their participation as part of Western Visayas, with the establishment of the Negros Island Region.

The new Negros Island Region is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor provinces.

With the new NIR, we will be competing with two provinces in the regional meet. Let’s prepare so NIR will dominate, Lacson said.

In the Palarong Pambansa, the governor said the best athletes of the new region will come from three NIR provinces.*
