Businessman and vlogger Wilbert Tolentino, the first nominee of Ahon Mahirap partylist, has stressed the need to include financial literacy in the Department of Education curriculum, starting in the elementary level.
Tolentino, who visited the families of his business partners on Wednesday in Barangay Quezon, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, said it will teach the children on how to value and manage the money at their early age, to achieve financial independence, upon reaching the adult stage.
Tolentino also met with San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo, whom he had briefed with the partylist group’s advocacy.
The Ahon Mahirap’s mission aims to tackle key issues like poverty, social justice, and economic empowerment.
In a press briefing, Tolentino said the Ahon Mahirap aims to bring direct, actionable policies that make a tangible difference in the lives of Filipinos, including social justice, economic empowerment, aside from financial literacy.
In social justice, he said they are advocating for equal access to resources, including expanding social safety nets, providing targeted support for marginalized groups such as women, youth, and the LGBTQ+ community.
For economic empowerment, Tolentino said that, in order to create jobs and build sustainable growth, they will also push for support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and investment in infrastructure.*
