The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is seeking the government’s approval on a more active training session for the teams later this month.

In an article posted on its website, the PBA hopes the teams will be allowed to hold scrimmages by Sept. 16 despite the general community quarantine (GCQ) status for Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces.

The PBA, along with the Philippine Football Federation received late July the go signal from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to resume training after the release of the joint administrative order (JAO)

The order, however, limits the league to non-scrimmage activities by small batches.

“We’re not discouraged by the extension of the GCQ status in Metro Manila. We’ll write the IATF (Inter Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases) a letter, and we hope that we be granted permission to shift our training to a higher level this September,” PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial.

The league commissioner said they will also write a letter to the body that crafted the Joint Administrative Order, referring to the Department of Health, the GAB and the Philippine Sports Commission.

Marcial’s confidence is rooted on the fact that the government is now more lenient, allowing more businesses to reopen even in places remaining under GCQ, the PBA posted on its website.

He is also continuing to craft proposed set-ups for PBA play resumption in preparation for his meeting with the members of the PBA board of governors.

He said they are preparing everything for the presentation to the PBA board, including the proposed bubble concept that is being pushed by PBA chairman Ricky Vargas.

With or without spectators, the PBA hopes to push through with the Season 45, albeit a shortened one.*
