President Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr. has designated Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer as his Personal Advisor for Western Visayas.

This was confirmed yesterday by Ferrer, based on an order that took effect August 3.

Ferrer recently attended a meeting with President Marcos Jr. in Manila, along with other top government officials, including House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

He said that the President initially wanted him to be a Presidential Adviser.

But Ferrer said he told the President that he cannot just turn his back to more than 890,000 Negrenses who voted for him during the recently concluded May 9 elections.

Ferrer said he can never give up the mandate as elected vice governor of Negros Occidental.

He also stressed that being a Personal Adviser to the President, which is a concurrent position to him, is a big advantage to Western Visayas, as he has direct access to the Chief Executive when it comes to important concerns of the region, especially Negros Occidental.

Ferrer, who personally led the presidential campaign of Marcos Jr. in Negros Occidental during the May 9 elections, also thanked the President for his trust and confidence.

During his meeting with the President, Ferrer said he had briefed the Chief Executive on the current status of sugar industry, health services and the campaign against illegal drugs in Negros Occidental.*
