The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), a government-owned and controlled corporation in the country that provides insurance protection to farmers and fisherfolk, distributed indemnity checks to farmers of Bago City on Wednesday.
At least 105 farmer-beneficiaries received their insurance claim from the PCIC, amounting to more than P300,000, based on the Department of Agriculture Bago City, which monitored the distribution at Barangay Poblacion.
The eligible beneficiaries are only those farmers who were registered in the PCIC under its Free Insurance Coverage for farmer-beneficiaries listed under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).
The insurance claims were distributed as the farmers were directly affected by and gained losses due to natural calamities, plant diseases, and pest infestations occurring at the rice and sugarcane fields in the province.
“It is a huge help, especially in these poor times since some of our crops died; this can be used to buy soil fertilizers,” said Edwin Serveza, one of the farmer-recipients.
The PCIC Western Visayas released P1.985 million in indemnity claims to farmers across Negros Occidental this month, providing assistance to 622 farmer-recipients.*
