The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) reported on Wednesday that all Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) across the region were safe after Typhoon Tino hit the region on Tuesday.
According to the statement issued by the BJMP, all 32 BJMP-manned jails across Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental were placed under close monitoring before, during, and after the typhoon.
Initial reports confirmed that no untoward incidents or damage occurred, and all facilities remain physically sound and fully operational, despite the strong winds and flash floods experienced across Negros Island.
Moreover, an immediate physical inspection and assessment was conducted by jail wardens and regional inspection teams to ensure the structural integrity of detention facilities and the well-being of PDL and personnel.
Regional Director Jail Chief Superintendent Brendan Fulgencio commended the dedication and preparedness of jail personnel who remained on duty throughout the duration of the typhoon.
“The safety and welfare of our PDL and personnel is always our foremost concern. We commend the commitment of our jail officers who ensured that all facilities remained secure and that our PDL were protected amid the adverse weather conditions,” he said.
In their statement, BJMP-NIR also extended its appreciation to local government units, the Office of Civil Defense, and other partner agencies for their continued coordination and support in disaster preparedness and response efforts during the critical times.*
