PENRO Negros Occidental, in collaboration with the 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Victorias City, successfully organized the Tree Growing Adventure for a Greener and Peaceful Tomorrow.
The activity is aimed at promoting environmental conservation through a unique combination of a collaborative motorcycle ride and a large-scale tree-growing initiative. The event also sought to strengthen partnerships among key stakeholders, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, Volunteers, Advocacy Groups, Victorias City, schools, and the local community.
The event commenced with a motorcade starting at the Bacolod Government Center and culminating at Gawahon, Brgy. XI, Victorias City. The motorcade brought together motorcyclists from various organizations, including representatives from the PNP, Coast Guard, and Army, showcasing a unified effort towards environmental advocacy and peace.
Upon arriving at Gawahon, a program was held to officially kick off the tree-growing activity. Victorias City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Lara Ann Garcia warmly welcomed the participants. Messages were delivered by PENRO and NNNP Park Superintendent Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya and the head of the 79th Infantry Battalion Commander LTC Arnel Calaoagan, emphasizing the importance of collective action in environmental conservation and peace-building.
A key highlight of the program was the Pledge of Commitment ceremony, which included a symbolic signing to solidify the shared dedication of all participants toward achieving a sustainable and peaceful future.
The main activity involved the planting of 5,000 native tree species, including Baguio lomboy, red nato, and yakal. More or less 500 participants actively contributed to this effort, representing various sectors such as LGU Victorias, barangay officials, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Philippine Army, PNP, Coast Guard, volunteers and motorcyclist groups.*
