The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Negros Occidental conducted the Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Quiz Contest on October 14, as part of the National Statistics Month pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647.

This year’s theme “Boosting the Country’s Recovery with Informed Decisions, Better Policies,” signifies the importance of evidence-based policy- and decision-making in implementing responsive plans and programs to accelerate economic recovery and growth.

According to the press release, contestants were employees from the PENRO Technical and Management Division, CENROs Bago, Cadiz and Kabankalan, MKNP, NNNP and TSPS.

OIC-Chief of the Management Services Division Rosario L. Rostata welcome everyone and gave her message to inspire all quiz contestants. TSD Chief Catherine Balasa also gave her message to congratulate and encourage all to actively be involved in activities that would equip them of the skill sets in statistics as they practice and apply it un their jobs.

Champion for this year’s Provincial ENR Statistical Quiz Contest is Angel Joy Lombres of the Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, first runner-up is Nonalyn Astromiňada from CENRO Bago and Lailanie Gaitan from Tañon Strait Protected Seascape placed 2nd runner-up.

As champion, Lombres will represent PENRO Negros Occidental to the Regional ENR Statistical Quiz Contest on October 19, to be held at Iloilo City.

The ENR Statistics Quiz Contest is an annual activity to also gauge the knowledge of employees on the updated environmental statistics of the department to promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.*
