Despite some hitches, the Panay Guimaras Negros (PGN) Island Bridges project is still a go, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Lacson disclosed yesterday, after attending the online meeting of the Regional Development Council 6.
Lacson also disclosed that an unsolicited proposal was raised before the RDC 6 to either expand the Bacolod Silay Airport, or add another runway.
Concerns were raised by a bidder in the ongoing pre-qualification bidding process for the US$48 million consulting service contract on the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and Tender Assistance of the PGN.
Although there the concern of one bidder complaining another bidder being favored, apparently with regard to the DED, Lacson said “they say it is still on schedule.”
He was told these issues will be resolved, Lacson said.
The 32.47-kilometer Island Bridges Project which will connect the islands of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros was initially proposed in 1999.
On the other hand, the proposed further development of Bacolod Silay Airport should also be pushed, which is being done by Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez.*
