With the push for grid modernization, the Philippines remains an important market for smart grid technology, G&W Electric Company regional sales manager for Asia Pacific North Enriko Camacho said.

“We have been doing business with the different (distribution) utilities here and I can say that the large chunk of our Asia Pacific market is coming from the Philippines,” Camacho said in a press conference Wednesday.

He said the country comprises 60 percent of G&W Electric’s Asian market.

Camacho said G&W Electric has been partnering with major distribution utilities and electric cooperatives in the country to provide products and solutions for grid technology.

The firm’s regional vice president Giin Sia said there are still opportunities in the Philippine market for smart grid technology with the government’s effort to energize the entire nation and asset modernization to prevent power outages due to faults in the grid.

G&W Electric launched its Teros recloser Wednesday that mitigates power disruption and manages reliable electrical service through its high-speed fault isolation.

As a smart grid technology, this does not require the use of oil or gas insulation.

“Teros comes at an opportune time when countries like the Philippines set their sights on post-pandemic recovery. Reliable energy is the lifeblood of any economy so the Philippines needs to ensure that utilities of every size have automated equipment to protect infrastructure and minimize long power outages,” Sia said.*PNA
