The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has swiftly responded to the armed clashes between state armed groups and non-state armed groups that occurred on May 11, at Sitio Dangalon, Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental.

In a press release, the PRC said their hearts go out to the 233 individuals comprising the 62 families that have been affected by the unfortunate situation and are currently seeking shelter at the Hilamonan Covered Court.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, PRC immediately mobilized its dedicated Red Cross 143 Volunteers and Red Cross Youth members to provide essential support to the affected families. Its volunteers have been tirelessly working at the evacuation center, offering child-friendly space activities, promoting hygiene practices, and raising awareness about dengue prevention. Additionally, an ambulance team was deployed to ensure that medical assistance is readily available to those in need.

In light of the ongoing relief efforts, Chairman Dick Gordon expressed his unwavering commitment to assisting those affected. He stated, “During times of crisis, the Philippine Red Cross stands firm in its commitment to serve and support those affected. We have deployed our dedicated teams to provide aid and assistance to the 62 families and 233 individuals currently seeking protection at Hilamonan Covered Court.”

The Philippine Red Cross acknowledges the importance of community support during these challenging times and appealed to the public to join them in extending a helping hand to the affected families in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. Contributions, whether through donations or volunteer efforts, can make a significant difference in alleviating the hardships faced by fellow Filipinos.

Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross, emphasized the organization’s dedication to its humanitarian mission. She stated, “The Philippine Red Cross is dedicated to providing immediate assistance and relief to the affected families in Kabankalan. We are working tirelessly to ensure their safety, well-being, and access to essential services during this challenging time.”*
