The 68th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Sugar Technologists Association (Philsutech), slated on August 23-26, will still be held in Bacolod City.

This was disclosed by Miss Haydee Rivera, Philsutech Corporate Secretary and Administrative Officer in a press release. The venue, resource speakers, technical presentations and other details of the event will be disclosed later, she added.

At the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020, Philsutech was compelled to cancel the convention, one of the most awaited events among sugar industry stakeholders. The organization pushed thru with the 67th Philsutech Annual National Convention in August 2021 at SMX in Bacolod Citywhen the health situation improved.

Last year’s event was momentous because it was the first time that the convention returned to Bacolod after 17 years in Cebu, and it was also the first convention conducted in a hybrid format of a mix of mostly virtual interactions and limited actual physical appearances.

Rivera also said that Engr. Noli Segovia, the Plant Manager of alcohol manufacturer URC-La Carlota Distillery, will be the Overall Convention Chairman for this year’s convention.

For more than 30 years, Segovia has handled different aspects of alcohol distillery plant operations. He has served as Resident Manager of San Carlos Bioenergy and AVP – Factory Operations Manager of Roxol Bioenergy. Segovia also had a stint as Supervisor in Asian Alcohol of Tanduay Philippines in Distileria Bago and as a Department Head of San Miguel Corporation.

Meanwhile, Philsutech’s mid-year technical trainings are on track, with the popular Farm Tour and Seminar slated tentatively on April 7 and 8. On April 21 and 22, the Applied Technology on Bioenergy and Environmental Management (ATBEM) Seminar will be conducted, while the Seminar on Applied Technology on Sugar Processing (ATSP) follows shortly on April 26-29.

The Applied Technology on Energy Management and Utilization (ATEMU) will be held on May 23-27, while the management seminar will be announced at a later date.

Moreover, Philsutech offers a webinar on “Variable Drives and their Applications in the Sugar Industry” on March 19 at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Engr. Marifi Tadena-Escabusa, Instrumentation Superintendent of Busco Sugar Milling Company and Vice-President and Director of Philsutech’s Engineering Division, will be the resource speaker.
