Multiple ash emissions were recorded again from the Kanlaon volcano in Negros Island, on Sunday by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
A total of five ash emission events were reported by PHIVOLCS yesterday morning, generating grayish plumes that rose from 200 to 750 meters above the summit crater, before drifting southwest, as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory.
Light ashfall was reported in La Castellana and La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
In a bulletin issued Sunday, PHIVOLCS reported a total of 14 ash emission events in the past 24 hours that ranged from two to 65 minutes long, and 35 volcano earthquakes, including 11 volcanic tremors, lasting four to 38 minutes.
Affected by ashfall on Saturday, which were triggered by a series of ash emission events, were the barangays of Mansalanao, Camandag, Sag-ang, and Robles in La Castellana, and Brgy. Yubo in La Carlota City, the OCD said, citing PHIVOLCS reports.
On January 25, Kanlaon released 2,413 tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.
Ground deformation has also been noted on the volcano.
As alert level 3 remains hoisted over Mt. Kanlaon, a six-kilometer radius from the crater, is off limits to the public.*
