The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is anticipating the increase in number of dengue cases in Negros Occidental, with the start of the rainy season, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan disclosed on Monday.
PHO has recorded 2,326 dengue cases, with seven deaths, from January to June 7 this year, registering an increase of 281.31 percent, compared to 610 cases during the same period last year.
Pinongan, however, said they noted a decline in dengue cases in the province during the summer season.
As the rainy season has started, and classes have also resumed, the PHO head said they are closely monitoring dengue cases.
Bago City remains on top of the list, having the most dengue cases at 474.
On the other hand, the Bacolod City Health Office has logged 401 dengue cases, including two deaths.
Cases in the highly urbanized city have increased by 137.3 percent, compared to 169 cases, with zero fatalities during the same period last year.*
