Ahead of the start of another schoolyear amid the pandemic, PLDT turned over refurbished personal computers to the Department of Education Schools Division of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, boosting the latter’s efforts to enable teachers to provide students with quality education through the Brigada Eskwela program.

The press release said PLDT’s donation of six personal computers will be allocated to the following schools in Himamaylan: two for the Magsaha Elementary School, Brgy. Caradio-An; two for Don Marcelo G. Vasquez Elementary School, Brgy. Nabalian; and two for the DepEd Schools Division Office.

The refurbished PCs will be used by teachers who conduct the blended learning mode of teaching, for online communication with students, as well as for teachers’ webinars.

“This activity paves the way of building synergy and strong partnership for the DepEd family especially SDO Himamaylan City to fulfill its promise to schools to constantly nurture and serve our schoolchildren.” Himamaylan Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo G. Gico, EdD, CESO VI, said at the Brigada Eskwela virtual kick off ceremonies.

He exhorted the DepEd and its partners to work together, saying “Let us together put our efforts and resources for education to continue reaching the beacon of excellence.”

PLDT First Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Catherine Yap-Yang said, “Despite the COVID-19 restrictions we all need to observe, PLDT and its mobile unit Smart continue to extend help to various schools. PLDT is glad to partner with DepEd Himamaylan as we support the blended learning approach to education. This year, DepEd’s theme of Bayanihan Para sa Paaralan speaks to all of us to continue working together to make our schools this worthy institution that eagerly welcome every teacher and child in our country.”

Earlier this year, PLDT donated 300 reams of bond paper to DepEd Himamaylan in support of teachers and students in the city’s 54 public schools as they carry out their blended mode of teaching and learning.*PR
