PNP cannot find Silay City Legal Officer to serve contempt order

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Silay City Legal Officer Atty. Janus Jarder was nowhere to be found when the contempt order issued by the House Committee on Public Accounts against him was to be served by the police, PCol. Rainerio de Chavez disclosed on Tuesday.

Jarder was twice cited for contempt for lying and for being evasive in answering questions being asked by the Public Accounts committee members, during a congressional inquiry last month into alleged irregularities in the procurement process of infrastructure and other projects of the Silay City government worth more than P1 billion .

When the police attempted to serve the contempt order to him at his residence on January 6, De Chavez said Jarder was not around. It was instead received by a member of his family, he added.

He added that a copy of the contempt order was also forwarded to the Silay City government, through the City Administrator’s Office.

Had it not been for the intervention of Abang Lingkod partylist Representative Joseph Stephen Paduano, Jarder could have been detained immediately after the congressional inquiry. It was Paduano who moved for his detention to start on January 6 this year instead, concurred by other committee members.

De Chavez said they were ordered to secure and escort Jarder to the House of Representatives, if he was around when the contempt order was served.

He added that they already informed the House committee of having served the contempt order.*
