Murcia Municipal Police Station Chief PCpt. Honey Labaro has issued a warning to the public following a fraudulent solicitation scheme that used his name and office to extort donations.
The alert comes after personnel from Hinoba-an police called Labaro to verify whether he had any idea about a letter circulating in the area with his signature, supposedly asking for solicitations on behalf of the ‘K9 Handler Inc. Tactical Unit’ based in Bacolod City.
The document, which includes unauthorized logos and a forged signature, falsely lists Labaro as the approving ‘acting chief of police’ to request financial support, dog food, and equipment.
He said that they already identified the founder as well as his companion in the solicitation letter.
Labaro clarified that he has not authorized any such collection and reminded the community that the Philippine National Police does not solicit funds for its operations.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report any individuals using his name for solicitation to the Murcia MPS.
This marks the second reported incident of scammers using the name of police officers for solicitations.
Early this year, Bacolod City Police Office Officer-in-charge PCol. Eugene Rebadomia also reported that an individual used his name to ask for money and liquor, claiming that he was allegedly celebrating his birthday at a resort in Cadiz City.*
